Camping Mats & Air Mattresses

The mat insulates from ground cold and gives comfort. The main types:

• Self-inflating: good insulation and comfort, medium bulk.
• Inflatable: light and compact, very comfortable, more delicate.
• Foam (mat): cheap, indestructible, bulky but insulating.

The technical parameter is the R-value (thermal resistance): the higher it is, the more it insulates from ground cold. Winter use needs a high R-value.

A basic camping kit includes, besides tent and sleeping bag: a mat (ground insulation), a head torch, and depending on use a camp bed, stove, water bottle or hydration system.
